EL MURO/THE WALL
CONSTITUCIÓN MARKET, ZAPOPAN / 2017
From LOCAL COMMUNITY ART EXHIBITION
The Wall is a novel written by Jean Paul Sartre in 1939. The page levitating page is the beginning of the chapter Herostratus. Herostratus was a humble shepherd in Ephesus, although he later became an arsonist. He was blamed for the destruction of the Artemis Temple at Ephesus, which was considered one of the Seven Wonders at the time. Herostratus symbolizes the human principle of destructing for constructing and vice versa; projecting this idea to my spectator is the main objective of this art work.
The Wall is my approach to generate social consciousness based on the aesthetic functionality. Generating social critic through material performance. Materials lack balance as a reflection of societies which need more words, better dialogues, more understanding through self-observation, and freedom to transcend.
